Faison’s dirt track debut ends prematurely

DELMAR, De – C.J. Faison made an action-packed return to the dirt track Tuesday night in the 38th Annual Camp Barnes Benefit Stock Car Race, but had his quest to end a three-year layoff in victorious fashion cut short thanks to mechanical problems.

The 16-year-old Faison, who competes in both the NAPA Auto Parts Super Dirt Series and NASCAR’s Whelen All-American Series, finished 19th in the Camp Barnes after having a steering arm break halfway through the race.

Faison tangled with a rival driver a handful of times during the early going but was beginning to work his way through field when the left steering arm on the No. 0j Delaware Auto Exchange/Schaeffer Racing Oil Big Block Modified snapped during a restart.

“We had the steering arm break, but I had a blast out there,” Faison said. “The car ran great. We’re going to get it fixed and be back out there Saturday night.

“A big thanks to Delaware Auto Exchange, Schaeffer Racing Oil, R.L. Ewing Construction, Paul Rose and Rose Engine Services, and my crew: Kyle Jefferson and Bryan Bradford,” Faison added.
